The principles of ecological succession bear importantly on the relationships between man and nature. Ecological succession involves the development of ecosystem. The ecosystem, or ecological system, is considered to be a unit of biological organization made up of all of the organisms in a given area, interacting with the physical enviroment so that a flow of energy leads to characteristic trophic structures and material cycles within the system.
Disturbance and resilience are two important ecological concepts necessary to understand changing environments. Different communities and species react differently when disturbed, however the system crashes when it reaches a certain threshold.
