Corona pandemic: Restriction of campus operations until 19 April

Kiel University (CAU) is largely restricting campus operations until April 19. Administrative operations will be limited to a necessary extent. Public advice centres, such as the Student Advisory Service, the Student Service, the International Center, the Computer Centre or the Examination Offices, will until then only give advise by telephone or e-mail. The Sports Centre, the University Library, canteens & cafeterias, the specialist libraries of the faculties and institutes will be closed. In addition, there will be no more internal training courses. Previously, reference courses and public events at the state university had already been cancelled and examinations severely restricted.

"From now on, we will limit the service and public traffic to the absolutely necessary extent. It is now important that we limit personal contacts as much as possible so that the novel coronavirus spreads more slowly. We know that this decision will have a considerable impact on many people and hope for understanding for this," explained CAU Chancellor Claudia Ricarda Meyer.

Notes on library use and examinations

Ordered and reserved printed media as well as subito and interlibrary loan orders cannot be provided or loaned for the time being. Borrowed media or books cannot be returned or sent back by mail. Reminders are suspended during closing time. Delay fees do not apply for this period. Licensed electronic media are available to CAU members via VPN access. Different regulations apply to Juris and Beck-Online. Inquiries are possible by telephone on 0431/880-4701 (Mon-Fri 9:00 - 4:30) or by e-mail to  info@ub.uni-kiel.de. Guided tours and training courses do not take place.

Due to the considerable restrictions on library use, students have the possibility of withdrawing from examinations. As an alternative, extensions of time limits are granted. Deregistration and withdrawal procedures are handled as generously as possible. Students can assume that they will not suffer any disadvantages if they miss the regular cancellation and withdrawal deadlines due to examinations cancelled at short notice. The faculties provide timely information for students about examinations on their websites.
