University library expands its services

Extended opening hours and online reservation for workstations from August 17

From Monday, August 17, the University Library (UB) of Kiel University will extend its opening hours and range of services. In correspondance with Corona-related restrictions, the Central Library will be open as follows by next week:

  • Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:30
  • Saturdays from 11:00 to 16:30

Likewise, more opportunities for learning and working will be given, as well as extended times for using individual workstations:

  • Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 18:30 (two shifts)
  • Saturdays from 11:00 to 16:30 (one shift)

Reservation of a workstation in advance

At the request of the students, a compulsory online workplace reservation system has been set up in the course of the extended opening hours. Users are asked to make a reservation for an individual workstation via a reservation system. Reservations for individual workstations are possible from now on. Depending on availability, they can be made at short notice for the current day and up to eight days in advance.

More services to come

It is planned to resume the self-access to books from the open-access sections of the first, second and third segments, presumably from Monday, August 24. This applies to both lending and working with books from the reference collection. "We are currently implementing comprehensive hygiene and safety preparations so that we can make an area of several thousand square metres on two floors accessible under corona conditions," explains Dr. Silke Glitsch, Head of the Central Library's Department for User Services.
