An interim University Board has been managing business at Kiel University (CAU) since 1 June. The group includes Chancellor Claudia Ricarda Meyer and the previous Vice Presidents, Professor Anja Pistor-Hatam, Professor Karin Schwarz and Professor Ilka Parchmann. The university management is therefore now fully-functional until a new CAU President is elected. The existing tasks remain as allocated. Presidential tasks and duties will be taken care of in close cooperation between the individual members of the interim University Board. A significant focus of this work is properly implementing the ongoing summer semester, including its examination periods.
Minister of Science Karin Prien welcomed the solution which the CAU has come to: “A dedicated interim University Board will lead the CAU over the coming months. I pass my thanks on to the three Vice Presidents, Professor Ilka Parchmann, Professor Anja Pistor-Hatam and Professor Karin Schwarz and Chancellor Claudia Ricarda Meyer, for taking these duties on under the more difficult conditions caused by the coronavirus pandemic. They were able to find this solution, which ensures continuity, in mutual understanding with the university’s self-administrative committees.
Setting up an interim University Board was necessary after the presidential election at the CAU was delayed. The terms in office of the previous President, Professor Lutz Kipp, and the three Vice Presidents, finished at the end of May. As a successor could not be found by that time, the Academic Senate at the university approved this temporary solution so that the university business could continue to run and the transition to a new University Board could be carried out smoothly. New Vice Presidents are expected to be elected and take up office in the autumn.
