Intelligent biosensors
»Biomarkers such as certain molecules in the blood play a major role in diagnosing diseases or selecting suitable treatments. Sensors which reliably detect these biomarkers are equally important. In my research, I design intelligent receptors for disease biomarkers based on the model of biological molecules. I have combined these materials with a range of biosensor systems for use in the health sector. My working group and I are currently researching technologies for diagnosing cancer, cardiovascular diseases and disorders of the nervous system. My chair here is an interdisciplinary one. The close cooperation between the Faculty of Engineering and the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein makes it easier to transfer research findings into clinical application.«
Zeynep Altintas has been Professor of Bio-inspired Materials and Biosensor Technology at Kiel University since May 2022. Previously research group leader at the Institute of Chemistry at TU Berlin. 2012: Doctoral degree at Sabanci University, Turkey, and Cranfield University, England.
