Juridicum

With the new construction of the so-called Juridicum, a modern teaching, research and administration building for the Faculty of Law has been built on the former employee car park in front of Leibnizstraße 4. The main entrance to the Juridicum will be on the north-western side towards Leibnizstraße 4. The building's flexible and communication-orientated layout will enable it to fulfil the requirements of sustainable, viable design. The centrepiece of the faculty building is an entrance area with cascading staircases spanning multiple levels.

With its five storeys and a height of around 21 metres and 91 metres in length, the building forms the entrance gate to Leibnizstraße. The exterior area between Leibnizstraße and Schwarzer Weg will be upgraded to be wheelchair accessible, with paved pedestrian and cyclist lanes, so that the two-storey base extends to three storeys towards the lake.

Architecturally, the new building is orientated towards the clear structures of the four existing faculty blocks. The entrance on Leibnizstraße features a café with an outdoor area and a bookshop which will enliven the corner of Leibnizstraße/Olshausenstraße.

The foyer is conceptualised as a public forum with working and communication areas. The generous use of glass in the foyer, the similarly-transparent interior partitions and the skylights all brighten the corridor areas and the whole faculty building. The open stairway in the foyer leads to the Examination Office as well as the offices and Dean's Office on the upper levels. There are three large seminar rooms on the first floor. In addition to the administration, office and teaching areas, the Juridicum unites the stocks of the law department libraries on Leibnizstraße and Olshausenstraße, which were spread across multiple locations.
