Information on childcare places and fees

All childcare places at Kiel University (daycare, nursery and kindergarten places) are full time places for eight hours per day.
Some facilities offer early or late childcare times; the actual number of hours of daily care varies depending on the centre.

The fee for a child care place is laid down in Kiel City's Statute of Fees (Gebührensatzung der Stadt Kiel). It is 240 Euro monthly for a full time place at the moment.
Depending on your financial circumstances you may be entitled to a reduction of this fee. There is an additional dinner money fee of 28 Euro (cannot be reduced).

Allocation of places

Places are usually available at the beginning of the school year, in August or September, when 3 year-old children move up from a nursery to a kindergarten place. Other vacancies only occur when a child leaves the day care centre, e.g. due to a move.

We allocate day care centre places that will become available from August/September in January/February of that year. We will inform you directly whether your child has a place, and where, and put you in touch with the relevant centre. You then have the opportunity to visit the centre and to decide (within a certain period) if you wish to accept the place for your child.

Places that become available during the kindergarten year will be allocated as quickly as possible.

If you have any questions, please call Bettina Bolterauer on 0431-880-2019 or Lara Kleiner on 0431-880-5221.
