Stipendiatin im Deutschlandstipendienprogramm an der Uni Kiel 2011/2012

My experience with Deutschlandstipendium I am Sunanda Tajhya from Nepal and I am a second semester student of Masters in Quanti­tative Finance (soon third semester form April). I am very happy to get this opportunity to tell you about my experience with Deutschlandstipen­dium. I am very happy and thankful to the whole Stipendium program and my sponsor for this financial support. This scholarship has helped me to cover a big part of my monthly expenses like rent and insurance which is really great as I now have to work only to cover other expenses like food, stationery, communication etc. Before getting this scholarship I had to work hard for long hours to cover all my expenses. Additionally, it was very stressful to not know how to manage my finances for future but this scholarship has reduced my stress a lot and given me a lot of relief. I now not only have more time for studies but also can concentrate on my studies better than before. I also have more time for student activities like attending different informational meetings, semi­nars, fairs and language courses. I regularly attend the seminars organized by STUBE-Nord and also the student meetings at ESG (Evange­lische Studierendengemeinde an der Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel). I am also applying for internships. Without this scholarship I would have to choose to work in unrelated fields for earning instead of doing internships which gives me experience in the field of my studies . I am specially thankful to my sponsor Mr. Herr­mann Rönnfeld, a very lively and charming 82 year old from Rendsburg. We are in regular contact by telephone, mails and we also see each other sometimes. I can meet him and spend some time with him whenever I want to. I have learnt a lot of things from him about historical, cultural, geogra­phical and social aspects of Europe, Germany, and especially Schleswig Holstein. Not only is he the man who helped me out financially when I was in need but also a very enthusiastic mentor for me.

Sunanda Tajhya I am very interested in the Mentoring-Partnership that you mentioned in the email and would like to know more about it. I am interested in social cultural topics, especially in Politics. I would like to know how the political system works in Ger­many, how it has managed to stay transparent, how the political parties work, what their princip­les are, how they make policies, how they keep the citizens informed about their policies and much more. I want to learn all these things so that I can compare and analyze the political system of my country. I would like be politically aware myself first, then raise awareness among people in my country and put pressure on the political system to make it more transparent and understandable for general public. So some mentoring in this area would be very helpful for me. From next October I will have to look for other ways to support myself financially for one more year of studies which means a lot of long hours of work.
