'Information Engineering' and 'Nano Science and Surface Research' are the research foci at the Faculty of Engineering. It is thus an important contributor to the Cluster Kiel Nano Science, which is complemented by strong collaborative research. Inter-disciplinary involvement can also be found at Marine Science, Nano Science, and SECC. The research on 'Numeric Simulation' and 'Dealing with development, analysis and application of efficient, discrete and numerical algorithms of transversal character' which are based at the Faculty of Computer Science is highly valuable for excelling in these areas. Last but not least, the Faculty of Engineering is a major contributor to the Data-Management-Initiative of Kiel University and the Helmholtz Institute of Marine Science (GEO MAR).
