A team of professional ombudsmen is available to all members of the CAU in order to aid and support them in every question concerning best scientific practice. It can be called upon also in case of violation of the above mentioned compliances or intellectual honesty. The ombudsman assists students in resolving conflicts or disputes within the university. In addition, he/she will counsel students/scientists who have exposed scientific dishonesty and are now subject to sanctions coming from other institutions. 

The senate of the University of Kiel appointed the team of ombudsmen in accordance with recommendations given out by the "Committee Self-Control in Science" ("Kommission Selbstkontrolle in der Wissenschaft"). 

The office of the ombudsmen does not accept formal complaints of academic malpractice and is not responsible for imposing sanctions. On reasonable suspicion though, the ombudsman may call upon the Commission to investigate any accusations of Academic Malpractice at Kiel University. 

The ombudsmen carry out their duties in a neutral, confidential, informal and independent manner.
