INTERREG: Within the framework of European Funds for Regional Development (EFRE) cross-border projects are financed, to strengthen the regional competitiveness. INTERREG is divided into four programs: INTERREG 4A (cross-border collaboration), INTERREG 4B (trans-national cooperation), and INTERREG 4C (international cooperation). For each of those programs, there are various sub-programs. 

INTERREG-funding is not restricted to academic research.
