Portals, groups & user
Different portals
We provide several discipline specific portals. One user, i.e. a learner, should be part of one portal only. To assure multidisciplinary view, we provide crosslinks from one portal to another.
Different user groups
Within one portal, users can be organized into groups, to restrict access to specific courses. These groups may be course specific or may belong to a start semester of a given study programme.
Different user types
Nickels provide different user roles for specific users: learner, tutor, author, and manager. Typically lecturer are both, tutor and author, respectively.
- A learner can access courses, provided by their tutors. Courses may be published for groups of learners or for any member of the given portal.
- A tutor can create courses and compile courses from a set of learning modules and can associate user groups to a course. Additionally, a tutor can add other tutors to a course, having the same rights.
- An author can create learning modules, i.e. create content. Additionally, an author can add other authors to a course, having the same rights.
- A manager can create users and has tutor rights for all courses and author rights for all learning modules. Their shall be up to three managers only per portal.
