On 23d – 24th of May 2014 a Conference “Sales Law in the Region of the Caucasus and Central Asia: Between divergence and harmonization” will take place in Almaty (Kazakhstan). The conference is organized by the Institute of East European Law of the Kiel University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in cooperation with the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Urals State Law Academy. The Conference is supported by the Volkswagen Foundation. The Conference will deal on a comparative basis with the sales law in the region of the Caucasus and Central Asia, with particular accent on regulation of international sales contracts. Sales law of all countries besides Georgia base on the CIS Model Civil Code. In the recent 20 years the sales laws of the countries of the region were amended many times. The reforms were strongly influenced by international legal frameworks and foreign, in particular German, legislation. But these reforms were not harmonized between each other. Today we have quite different legal framework for the sales law. As the result the countries of the region approaching step-by-step to the international trends, are drifting more and more from each other. The Conference is targeting to shed light to this interesting development and compare it to the developments in the EU, in particular to establishment of the Common European Sales law.
Dr. Marina Trunk-Fedorova has acted as a member of the jury panel in the Second International Student Competition “Model WTO” held at the Russian Academy of Foreign Trade (Moscow) on 24-27 November 2014. (Deutsch) On 6-7 June 2013, Dr. Marina Trunk-Fedorova took part in the Seventh Annual Euro-Asian Law Congress in Ekaterinburg and made a presentation on the WTO dispute settlement system and Russia’s experience and expectations in this field. At the time of the Congress, Russia already had been a third party in a number of WTO disputes but not a party to a dispute.
