Classical conference on Greek historians and geographers
Josef Wiesehöfer organizes a colloquium on Megasthenes, Apollodorus of Artemita and Isidor of Charax. It takes place in Kiel from June 27 to 30. Wiesehöfer intends to give the event a rather unusual design: "Instead of having papers read at the conference, they are sent to the participants in advance for preparation. During the meeting, most time will be devoted to discussion."
The colloquium is part of a series on "Greek Historiography and the Ancient Near East", which Josef Wiesehöfer organizes in collaboration with Giovanni B. Lanfranchi (Padova), Bruno Jacobs (Basel), Robert Rollinger, Reinhold Bichler (Innsbruck) and other colleagues. Former conferences of the series focused on Ctesias, the Achaemenid Court, Herodotus, and Berossus. For the publication of the respective proceedings a new series has been created: "Classica et Orientalia" (Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz). The conference in Kiel is financed by the Graduate School; several PhD students are going to participate as session chairs - "a sophisticated task regarding the design of the event", Wiesehöfer states.
