German courses: Who? What? How?

Applicants who meet the general entry requirements, but do not yet have sufficient proficiency, can improve their language skills at the „Lektorat Deutsch als Fremdsprache“. Students must apply for the language courses via the International Center (respectively via Uni-Assist) beforehand.

Grades

There are three grades: „Intermediate level I („Mittelstufe I“), „Intermediate level II“ („Mittelstufe II“) and the advanced level („Oberstufe“). You can find a summary of all the classes further down on this page. Please be advised that the University of Kiel does not offer any German classes for beginners. However, students not meeting the language requirements for the intermediate level classes can sign up for beginner courses at the „Volkshochschule Kiel“ at Muhliusstraße 29/31.

Nach dem Besuch der Mittelstufe II besteht für Studierende und Studienbewerber die Möglichkeit, die Immatrikulationsprüfung Deutsch abzulegen (DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung zum Hochschulzugang)).

Special classes are offered during the semester and outside of it. These classes are geared towards groups of uniform departure languages and/or certain branches of study. This applies especially for classes provieded by the Deutsch-Norwegisches Studienzentrum (DNSZ)..

We offer German classes for foreign guest scientists and for ERASMUS students. Please be advised that the dates of the placement test for these classes differ from the regular dates.

Also, there is the "International Summer Course", taking place after the summer semester and offering a multitude of language classes, lectures, field trips and activities.

Preceding the winter semester we offer a language course for foreign students in cooperation with the DNSZ. This course is designed to prepare students for a semester at a German university. Details: Preparatory language course
