TEDxKielUniversitySalon: “Don’t Imitate, Educate!”
The second “TEDxKielUniversitySalon” will be taking place on 15 September as from 6 pm in the Studio-Bar in the Studio-Filmtheater on Dreiecksplatz in Kiel. Those interested are invited to address the topic of education in discussions and develop creative ideas for education in the future, under the motto “Don’t Imitate, Educate!”. “We want to offer people from Kiel and the surrounding areas a place in which to inspire new momentum, independently of current structures,” explained Paul Friedhelm Günther, member of the organisational team. “In addition, the participants can get to know the concept of international TED and TEDx conferences better via these slightly smaller events.”
The associated Kiel TEDx conference will take place on 3 December at the premises of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Schleswig-Holstein. This is already the second TEDxKielUniversity conference. Ulf Evert, staff member at the Key Skills Centre at Kiel University is looking forward to it: “Kiel University is one of the first universities in the world to incorporate organising a TEDx-Salon in Kiel into its teaching. This gives students the opportunity to gain a lot of practical experience.” The events are organised by students and doctoral candidates at Kiel University and are held in English.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today's leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED's annual conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, and made available, free, on TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Nandan Nilekani, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Sal Khan and Daniel Kahneman.
TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; the Open Translation Project (www.ted.com/pages/287), which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from thousands of volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed (ed.ted.com); the annual million-dollar TED Prize (www.tedprize.org), which funds exceptional individuals with a "wish", or idea, to create change in the world; TEDx (www.ted.com/tedx), which provides licenses to thousands of individuals and groups who host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; and the TED Fellows (www.ted.com/fellows) program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
