Curriculum Vitae

Matthias Kern, born in 1958, received his undergraduate education in Dentistry from 1980 to 1985 in Freiburg, Germany, graduating from School of Dentistry in 1985. From 1985 to 1989 he was Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Dentistry, Albert-Ludwigs University, Freiburg. In 1987 he completed his D.M.D. thesis (Dr. med. dent.) and was later appointed to the following positions: 1989 Academic Lecturer, 1991 Senior Academic Lecturer, and from 1991-1993 Visiting Research Associate Professor, University of Maryland at Baltimore, USA (Grant of the German Society of Research). Dr. Kern completed his Ph.D. thesis (Habilitation) in 1995 and became Associate Professor of the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Dentistry, Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg. In 1997 Dr. Kern became Professor and Chairman of the Department of Prosthodontics, Propaedeutics and Dental Materials, School of Dentistry, Christian-Albrechts University at Kiel, Germany.

2002 - 2011 Prof. Kern serves as Dean for student affairs in Dentistry (Studiendekan der Zahnmedizin)

Since 2004 Prof. Kern is President of the Scientific Society for Dentisty in Schleswig-Holstein (Schleswig-Holsteinische Gesellschaft für Zahn-, Mund- und Kieferheilkunde).

2008 - 2012 Prof. Kern was Vicepresident of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials (DGPro).

in Dec. 2011 recipient of the 44th Schweizer Research Award from the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics (GNYAP)

2012 - 2016 Prof. Kern was President of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials DGPro

2017 - 2018 Prof. Kern was Vice-President of the IADR Prosthodontic Research Group
 
2018 - 2019 Prof. Kern was President of the IADR Prosthodontic Research Group

March 2020 recipient of the IADR Distinguished Scientist Award for Research in Prosthodontics and Implants
