Supplement to Scherzer, T. R. and Ekroll V. (submitted). Intermittent occlusion enhances the smoothness of sampled motion.

The two apparent motion sequences differ only with respect to what is shown during the interstimulus interval (ISI). In the top sequence, only the green target square is left out during the ISI, while in the bottom one, the entire background is blanked.

Use the sliders to control stimulus duration D and interstimulus interval ISI.

What to observe: The motion of the green target generally appears less jerky and flickering in the bottom sequence.

Note that this demonstration is likely to have tearing artifacts since the animation is not synchronized with the monitor refresh rate.
