Overall Description
The
University of Kiel
The University of Kiel was founded in 1665. The university's seal shows
the symbol of peace: PAX OPTIMA RERUM. Today, there are nine faculties
within the University.
The Faculty of Philosophy houses a great diversity of liberal arts and
cultural arts. It consists of 24 departments and institutes which offer
several academic and teaching programs. The disciplines are connected
to each other in both teaching and research. Thus, the students have the
possibility to combine different subjects. Kiel University's relations
to Northern and Eastern Europe are outstanding in quality and quantity.
Besides, the center of languages and language contact in cooperation with
Nordic, Asian, African, North American, and Eastern European studies offers
all types of lectures.
The Institute for Sport and Sport Sciences
The Institute for Sport and Sport Sciences (ISS) is part of both the
Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Medicine. The ISS educates about
1000 students and is one of the biggest institutes of Christian-Albrechts-University,
Kiel (CAU). The ISS and the Sports Center (Sportzentrum), which is responsible
for university sports, share the office buildings, the sports installations,
the Sailing Center 'Schilksee', and the Rowing and Canoeing Center 'Seeburg'.

- Offices: Management, Library, Sports Installations, Technology
(audio-visual - IT).
