President Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fouquet



Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fouquet was born in Ludwigshafen in 1952 and studied German and History at the universities of Giessen and Mannheim from 1975 to 1980. He took his first state examination for secondary school teaching in Mannheim in 1980. From 1980 to 1985 Fouquet worked as a research assistant at the Generallandesarchiv in Karlsruhe and at the University of Siegen, where he obtained his doctorate in 1985. He was university assistant until 1991 and then filled the position of Akademischer Rat as a lecturer until 1996.

Fouquet qualified to teach at professorial level (Habilitation) in Siegen in 1994 and was appointed as reader (Privatdozent). After deputizing in a chair in Mainz he was appointed to the chair of Economic and Social History at Kiel University in 1996, which he has held ever since. Fouquet was Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities from 2000 to 2002 and Deputy Rector since 2005. At December 12th 2007 he was elected President of our university.
