Vice President Prof. Dr. Frank Kempken



Professor Frank Kempken was born in 1960 in Moers on the Lower Rhine. He studied biology from 1980 to 1985 at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum where he went on to complete his doctorate and work as an academic assistant. He obtained his postdoctoral qualification at Ruhr-Universität Bochum in the field of general and molecular botany in 1996 and was employed there as a university lecturer. In 2001 Frank Kempken was appointed to the post of C3 Professor of Botany at Kiel University with a focus on genetics and molecular biology.

Dr. Kempken was Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences from 2004 to 2008 where he was responsible for the introduction of bachelor and master degree courses. His duties were extended in the spring of 2008 to cover study and teaching throughout the university when he was appointed Vice President.
