Computational biology

Answering biological questions using bioinformatics applications is the main task of what we call "computational biology" today. In our group we try to get insights into the evolution of genes and genomes by means of next generation sequencing and computational analysis of different Hydra transcriptomes and the Hydra genome. Using a variety of comparative approaches in different basal metazoan organisms we investigate the evolution of genes involved in development, patterning and immunity.

The Bosch lab maintains a workgroup-internal bioinformatics high-performance cluster (HPC) for the analysis of NGS-data as well as an EST analysis pipeline and a comparative genomics BLAST platform (www.compagen.org). Both HPC and analysis pipelines are available for the community on request .
