Frameworks, initiatives and Future Ocean Network perspectives
Under the motto "A transparent & accessible ocean: Towards a Digital Twin of the Ocean" the European Commission follows the approach to fill the need to integrate a wide range of data sources to transform data into knowledge and to empower citizens, governments and industries by providing them with science based recommendations. The Digital Twin Ocean strategy will cover all aspect of the ocean, e.g. marine habitats, impacts of human activities, ocean monitoring.
In relation to the European and international frameworks, the Future Ocean Network initiated a call aiming to inspire Kiel based initiatives in this space. Within the 5th Future Ocean Network Event we will hear from the European expert Peter Bauer about the digital twin of planet Earth, we will provide insights in the European and global framework by Martin Visbeck and share ideas concerning the upcoming engagement of Kiel scientists in an initiative towards data driven digital twins by Matthias Renz.
