Innovative Composites for quick joining between metals, fiber composites and functional carbon materials

What is presented?
New lightweight composites made of fibreglass reinforced/carbon-fibre reinforced plastics (GRP/CRP) and aluminium, as well as mobile joining techniques at metalworking speed, are presented as industry-oriented, applied research.
What is special?
The joining methods of classical metalwork are often not suitable for creating lightweight components. The methods presented enable simple and fast production, and thus the use of composites made of GRP and light alloys with improved functions.
What are the potentials?
Industrial application of multi-material composites is becoming possible on a large scale thanks to new joining techniques. Exhibits from fundamental research into ultra-lightweight materials with record densities of less than 1 mg/cm³ enable functional applications in aeronautics and space.
