About Kiel Marine Science (KMS)
Kiel Marine Science (KMS) is the Centre for Interdisciplinary Marine Science at Kiel University. KMS performs a central coordinating role for all researchers in natural sciences, the humanities, and social sciences whose work concerns oceans, coasts, and their interaction with humanity.
Associated research groups have expertise in fields such as climate research, coastal research, physical chemistry, botany, microbiology, mathematics, informatics, economics, law, and social science. Altogether, KMS is comprised of over 70 research groups from seven faculties and more than 26 research institutes.

Research
Scientists from Kiel Marine Science collaborate beyond the boundaries of their disciplines and faculties, through participating in overarching research programmes such as special research areas promoted by DFG and projects of the German Alliance for Marine Research (DAM) or multidisciplinary associations. Through their projects, they promote and develop the profile of inter- and transdisciplinary marine scientific research at Kiel University.

Platforms and Networks
Kiel Marine Science (KMS) is connected with regional, national, and international academic and science policy networks. In addition, KMS includes platforms such as the Center for Ocean and Society (CeOS), which implements transdisciplinary research and technical infrastructure.
Promotion of young scientists
Under the umbrella of Kiel Marine Science (KMS), offers for the promotion of young scientists, ranging from interdisciplinary and international programmes for students to measures for career development, are designed and implemented with a focus on Master's students, doctoral students and postdocs.
