Transfer

A university is not an island. It is an entity that impacts on, with and for society in a number of ways, by offering space for new ideas, passing on knowledge and values, enabling debates about controversial subjects. Universities train specialists, produce innovative products and start-ups, help companies to develop further, assist politics by giving advice and warnings. The CAU encompasses top quality, innovative science, a sense of responsibility and the transfer of knowledge. It advocates the university’s active role in society and aims to work closely together with the community to be the driving force behind regional, national and international development by looking for and finding pioneering solutions for our most pressing issues. This is the reason why the CAU maintains a variety of active connections with its partners in science, industry, politics and society.

Business & technology

Ideas and inventions developed at the CAU contribute towards technological and social progress. The Technology Transfer department at Kiel University supports and connects players from industry, the authorities and science. Researchers receive support if they have questions about patents, licences or collaboration with companies.

Education & science

The CAU is one of Schleswig-Holstein’s largest educational facilities. One of its main tasks is to acquire knowledge and enable the state to exploit this knowledge for its own development. As many people as possible should benefit from and be involved in what the university discovers, which is why Kiel University prepares its students and young researchers not just for academic careers, but also for those outside the university. Service learning, for example, and (social) entrepreneur formats, which are firmly anchored in teaching, train solution-oriented thinking and acting.

Politics & partners

Kiel University addresses the complex challenges that we are currently facing and strategically invests in interdisciplinary cooperation which goes well beyond faculty and institutional borders, thus making the CAU a valuable consultative partner for politics, institutes, society, the industry and educational facilities. These groups require independent, critical advice and support in increasingly complex political, economic or social contexts - a role which the CAU has taken on. The university bases its actions on its experts and their scientific quality and independence.
