Ceremony for the founding day of Kiel University

On October 5, Kiel University will be celebrating its founding day 350 years ago. All current and former members of Kiel University, students as well as employees, shall be able to witness the ceremonial act themselves. Therefore, the ceremony will be broadcast live from St. Nikolai into the main lecture hall of Kiel University (Audimax). Experience an event that will become part of the university’s history in a relaxed cinema atmosphere. (The event language is German.)

Employees of Kiel University may attend the live broadcast in the main lecture hall (Audimax) during their working hours. Please use the “Dienstgang Anfang/Ende” option on the time registration terminals.

Programme of the ceremonial act

The ceremony for the founding day will take place on October 5. After a welcome speech by regional bishop Gerhard Ulrich, a ceremonial speech will be given by Professor Lutz Kipp, President of Kiel University. The speech will be followed by greetings from Schleswig-Holstein's Minister-President and patron of the university jubilee, Torsten Albig, and from Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte of Denmark.

The musical framework for the ceremony will be provided by members of the Philharmonic Orchestra of state capital Kiel and by Kiel University's Studentenkantorei (student choir) under the direction of university music director, Bernhard Emmer. One of the musical pieces will be “Veni, sancte spiritus” by Augustin Pfleger. It was formerly played at the original founding day of Kiel University on October 5, 1665.

In honour of Kiel University, the premiere of a carillon concert “Pax Optima Rerum” at the Kieler Kloster will conclude the ceremony. Guests of the ceremony as well as the wide public are invited to join this concert. This concert will not be broadcast.
