DearmembersoftheUniversity,

Thecurrentlockdownwillbeextended.Onthebasisofthefurtherincreaseinthenumberofinfectionsanddeathfiguresaswellastheadditionalrisksduetomutationsofthecoronavirus,thefederalandstategovernmentsdecidedonTuesdaytocontinuethecurrentrestrictionsuntilJanuary31.Insomecases,thesewillbetightened.TheresolutionspassedarecurrentlybeingimplementedatthestatelevelinSchleswig-HolsteinandweexpectthepublicationoftheCoronaOrdinanceforUniversitiesthiscomingweekend.Inthemanneralreadyknown,wewillinformyouindetailonSaturdayorSundayaboutthemeasuresandrestrictionsthatwillapplytoCAUfromJanuary11bymeansofacircularemailandonthis Coronawebsite. 

Wearecurrentlyassumingthatthecurrentregulationsforteaching,researchandadministrativeoperationsattheuniversitywillbecontinued.Thismeans,aboveall,thatthepresenceonsiteistobereducedtotheabsoluteminimumandthatalllibrariesoftheuniversitycanonlyofferaverylimitedservice. 

Inconsultationwiththefaculties,practicalcoursesaretoberesumedonsite.Thisappliestothosecaseswheretheiromissionwouldleadtodelaysincompletingthedegree.However,thisrequiresthecorrespondingenablingviatheCoronaOrdinanceforUniversities,which,asalreadymentioned,willnotbeavailableuntiltheweekend.Weaskforyourunderstandingthatwecannotmakeanydefinitivestatementsonthistoday.

Similarly,wearestilldependentonfurtherinformationfromthestateastowhatoptionstherewillbeforemployeesandstudentswithchildreninreactiontotheclosuresofschoolsandKindergartens.Thelossofchildcareoptionsandtherequirementsofhomeschoolingcertainlyposethegreatestchallengesforthoseaffected.Iwouldliketopointoutthattheuniversityboardisawareofthesemultipleburdensandthefactthat,asaresult,thesameperformancecannotbeexpectedasin"normaloperation".Wearethereforeendeavouringtotaketheseburdensintoaccountasbestwecan.
