Time travel of a special kind: Throughout the jubilee year at Kiel University (CAU), its founder, Duke Christian Albrecht, and the female figure from the university crest, widely known as Christine, will be given new life. They will be present at all the important jubilee events and will breathe life to the eventful history of the CAU. Yesterday (Tuesday, 4 November), the Theater Kiel and Kiel University both looked for and discovered the performers for the CAU's founding figures. The best eight applicants presented themselves before a jury consisting of Daniel Karasek (Director of Theater Kiel), Lord Mayor Dr Ulf Kämpfer, CAU Vice President Professor Ilka Parchmann and other members of the university.

After they had proven their acting ability and knowledge of the university, the choice was reduced down to Jennifer Nowitzki (Christine) and Harry Tobinski-Ahrens (Christian Albrecht), along with Catharina Müller and Tim Lukas Kornprobst (understudies). "The casting was great fun. We are very pleased with the result", said Director Daniel Karasek. "The standard of the candidates was excellent. Kiel University can look forward to worthy ambassadors."

The casting was a great opportunity for Lord Mayor, Dr Ulf Kämpfer, to prepare himself for his role as jubilee ambassador. Kämpfer said: "It was lovely to be able to dip into the history of the university in this very personal and intensive way at the Theater Kiel. We saw some wonderful men and women. It was not an easy choice. We finally found some marvellous ambassadors as colleagues for me."

CAU Vice President Professor Ilka Parchmann was also very impressed by the vibrant and generally very likeable contributions. "It was so good to see how much passion the candidates put into their presentations. All applicants put in a great deal of effort. This is a huge compliment for our university. Thank you very much!"
