Handing over office to the new President of Kiel University, Simone Fulda

On Thursday 1 October, Simone Fulda will be sworn in as the new President of Kiel University, after being elected by its Academic University Senate on 24 June. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the mandatory social distancing, participation in person is restricted to a limited number of registered guests. Everyone who is interested in the event is therefore welcome to follow it via the live stream on this website.

Professor Simone Fulda studied human medicine from 1988 to 1995 at the University of Cologne in Germany, as well as the Harvard Medical School, Boston, the University of California, San Francisco and the University of Arizona in the US and University College Dublin in Ireland. In 2001, she qualified as a university lecturer in the Medical Faculty at Ulm University and was presented with the Venia Legendi for the field of Paediatrics. She completed specialist medical training from 1995 to 2001 at the University Children's Hospitals in both Heidelberg and Ulm. The new President of the CAU has been active in life science research since 2001. Since 2010, she has held the positions of Director at the Institute for Experimental Cancer Research in Paediatrics and Professor of Experimental Tumour Research at the Goethe University Frankfurt, where she was the Vice President for Research and Academic Infrastructure before being elected President of Kiel University. Simone Fulda is a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and sits on several of the academic organisation’s national and international committees.
