Dear readers,

100 editions! For 18 years the “unizeit” has been providing regular reports from Kiel University’s universe - news, strange facts, sometimes even the downright bizarre. Hundreds of articles and input from every conceivable research area have been shedding light on and expanding our knowledge of the world for almost two decades now. Special editions focussed on university-specific topics such as internationalisation, the CAU’s 350th anniversary in 2015 or the importance of diversity for science. Series on great researchers from the Kiel Fjord or women's careers promoted remarkable CVs. The “unizeit” has long been a knowledgeable chronicler of our recent university history - with lively posts and interviews (over 80), portraits of new professors (more than 300), reports, coverage and guest articles.

And despite current digitalisation, it still finds its way to the Saturday breakfast table four times a year. Throughout the years our university newspaper has undergone many a transformation. The number and scope of issues has changed. In 2012 we had the first major optical revamp with more pictures and more legible print. Articles in English exemplify the CAU’s progressive internationalisation. The supply of English articles online was expanded in 2017, a new website was set up and some articles were advertised on social media. The “unizeit” is therefore also a great example of how media and science are adaptable and changeable to meet changing circumstances.

Our committed authors and the supporting agency pur.pur are the foundation for the constantly high quality of the articles and their visual design, along with our editorial staff, who always manage to connect current socio-political topics to the research at the CAU. The university owes you a big thank you for your valuable work on transferring knowledge. This 100th edition is the perfect opportunity to look back over the topics of the past 18 years. And last but not least we thank the Kieler Nachrichten for the many years of generous guidance and support. Plus we thank you, too - our readers - for your loyalty. Stick by us.
