Couldn´t the elections had been postponed?
A postponement of the elections was discussed. However, there is currently no legal basis for postponing the elections, as the legislature has not yet made any transitional arrangements for the current bodies and decision-makers in the case that there are no new elections at the end of the current legislative period. This would mean that after June30, 2020, the Senate and Conventions would no longer be occupied and the deans and vice-deans would no longer be in office and would therefore no longer have any decision-making authority.
In addition, at the beginning of April 2020 we cannot estimate how the situation in the Corona crisis will develop, whether the staff will still be able to work on the preparation and implementation in the coming weeks and whether the employees will be on site again during the election period.
